One Piece: The Main Characters Cheated Death 10 Times
In shonen anime, killing off main characters is a big deal. However, the characters of One Piece have managed to avoid death on many occasions.
One Piece is a series in which the subject of characters not dying is often raised by viewers. Although the series' writer, Eiichiro Oda, is wary about killing off his protagonists, this isn't to say that they haven't died in the tale.
When it comes to the main characters in the arcs, it's a given that they won't die, but they've had a lot of close calls with death, even going so far as to escape death on some occasions.
When Usopp Clashed Against Mr. 4 Outside Alubarna
During the Alabasta arc of One Piece, Usopp and Chopper faced Miss Merry Christmas and Mr. 4, and as two of the crew's weakest members, they were the underdogs for the majority of the battle.
Usopp, in particular, took a direct blow to the head from a one-ton bat, suffering horrific injuries that should have killed him but didn't.
When Roronoa Zoro Made It Through His Fight With Mr. 1
Mr. 1 was the subject of one of Zoro's most famous battles, in which he was forced to grow stronger in the heat of battle and learn how to cut steel. Although the battle is amazing and arguably the best Zoro has ever fought, it is also one in which Zoro may have died.
Mr. 1's Supa Supa no Mi allowed him to severely injure Zoro and bring him dangerously close to death. Zoro's death would have been all but inevitable if he hadn't reawakened the breath of all things in that split second.
When Luffy He Fought Against Crocodile In Alubarna
In the Alabasta arc, Luffy and Crocodile faced off three times, with the former losing on two occasions. Luffy brought water to their second battle to tackle Crocodile's weakness.
Crocodile, with his experience, was able to get around Luffy's defenses by completely drying him out and leaving him to die. Fortunately, some water was poured on Luffy's body, saving him from death.
When Luffy Took A Maximum Radius: Rokuogan From Rob Lucci
Many fans consider Luffy vs. Rob Lucci to be the best fight Luffy has ever fought, and one of the reasons for this is Luffy's tenacious performance against the CP-9 agent.
Luffy, on the other hand, was severely wounded after capturing the final Rokuogan, to the point that he should have been unable to fight back..Rob Lucci was surprised at how he found the strength to stay on his feet, let alone defeat him moments after.
When Luffy Was Poisoned By Impel Down's Warden Magellan
During his attempt to save Ace, Luffy came face to face with Impel Down's Magellan, and this is one of the few one-on-one battles he's ever lost.
Luffy was severely poisoned as a result of Magellan's Doku Doku no Mi, to the point that no cure could save him. He was saved, however, thanks to Ivankov's abilities. Even after the poison was extracted, Luffy's chances of survival were still slim, but he managed to pull through, thanks to his amazing vitality.
In Marineford, Akainu faced off against Whitebeard.
The Paramount War saw some of One Piece's most powerful characters collide, with Akainu's fight with Whitebeard being the most violent of them all.
Despite having half his face blown off, Whitebeard was able to dispatch Akainu quickly. Akainu was on the verge of death, but he made it because he is one of the series' main antagonists.
When Sabo Was Shot Was By A Celestial Dragon
Sabo is Luffy and Ace's brother, and the three grew up together and shared a special bond, as seen in Luffy's flashback. Sabo's growing family issues forced him to set sail ahead of his brothers, but he was unfortunately shot down by a Celestial Dragon.
In the Dressrosa arc, Sabo made his return to the story and it was later revealed that Dragon happened to be nearby and thus managed to save him in the nick of time.
When Donquixote Doflamingo Fought the Trafalgar Law
Trafalgar Law joined forces with Monkey D. Luffy to beat Kaido, a Yonko, but first he had to settle a personal score with Doflamingo. In the Dressrosa arc, Law was largely outclassed by the other characters.
In reality, after being beaten by Doflamingo, Law was shot several times and nearly died. He had to survive, however, because he was a crucial character in the arc.
When Kurozumi Kanjuro Fought Against Okiku
Kanjuro had to battle the Akazaya Nine after exposing himself as the traitor and kidnapping Momonosuke, and was defeated by Kikunojo of the Lingering Snow.
After a bloody fight, Kanjuro succumbed to Kiku's blade and was stabbed through the body. Kanjuro did not die, as was later discovered, and he is still involved in the battle.
When Kurozumi Orochi Was Beheaded By Kaido
Orochi is one of the two main villains in the Wano Country arc of One Piece, and he was set up alongside Kaido as someone who needed to be struck down by the Akazaya.
Surprisingly, he was beheaded by Kaido while attempting to deceive Orochi and take control of Wano. Orochi was later discovered to be alive, most likely as a result of the Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit he consumed.
